What’s the difference between Quartz vs. Quartzite?

  • Quartz is human-made, with a white base and added veining or sparkle. It’s nonporous, low-maintenance, and scratch-resistant, but not heat-resistant due to resin. Not ideal for outdoor use. Quartz ranges from Level 2 to Exotic, with more veining in higher levels.
  • Quartzite is a natural, durable stone with unique colors and crystal-like movement. It’s heat-resistant, scratch- and stain-resistant, but does need sealing. Most quartzites are Exotic.

What’s the difference between Granite vs. Dolomite?

  • Both are natural, durable, heat/scratch/stain-resistant, and require sealing.
  • Dolomite is a mix of granite, quartzite, and marble, usually with more movement and color variation.
  • Granite ranges from Level 1 (uniform, speckled) to Exotic (more color and movement).

What’s the difference between Marble vs. Granite?

  • Marble is a softer, more porous stone that offers luxurious veining and an elegant look—This material’s natural charm comes with a need for a bit more care — regular sealing, gentle cleaning, and quick attention to spills help maintain its beauty and prevent etching from acidic substances like vinegar, citrus, or wine.
  • Granite, by contrast, is significantly harder and less porous. It resists scratches, chips, and stains better than marble, making it more suitable for high-use areas such as kitchens. While it still needs sealing to protect against moisture and staining, it generally requires it less often. Granite also tends to handle heat well—placing hot pans on it is safer, though trivets are always recommended.

Stone Maintenance

We recommend using pH-neutral cleaners and sealing natural stone regularly to maintain its appearance and durability. Quartzite and granite are especially resilient when properly sealed. For specific care recommendations, please consult your fabricator.

Pricing Differences

Our stones are categorized by levels, ranging from Level 1 to Level 5. Level 1 stones feature more uniform and subtle patterns and are typically the most budget-friendly, while Level 5 stones are the most distinctive and exotic. Levels are determined by factors such as rarity, color, and veining patterns. All stone types are priced according to these levels, and materials within the same level are generally comparable in cost.

Final pricing can vary depending on fabrication and installation, which are handled directly by your fabricator. TAC Granite does not provide fabrication pricing—please consult your fabricator for an accurate quote.
